Please read
Eustress and then fill in the blanks below.
1. Eustress can be defined as a _____ or______.
We can't always avoid stress, in fact, sometimes we don't want to. Often, it is controlled stress that gives us
our __ edge in performance related activities like athletics, giving a speech, or acting (see Performance Stress Curve diagram).
2. ______ is most often a good stressor. But over training can cause
_________ and ____________.
3. To continue to exercise when your body is ____ or _____,
can result in a variety of overuse injuries and predispose you to illness.
I think Eustress can also be broken down into several categories. In our video “Stress - Part One,” The first definition of Eustress is perhaps receiving
___________, _______________, or
______________.
However, as suggested above, Eustress can often be found in our performance challenges.
Challenges also come in all shapes and sizes, from every day challenges to major event challenges that ultimately have a rewarding after the fact experience. Amazing work I can do, but it is usually when I am under the gun, and feeling pressured to get it done.
Yesterday I had a new client and I knew that we would be going to breakfast, in my car! Yes I could have cleaned it out the night before, but that would have been just too easy! My reward under stress, a very clean car, accomplished in stress. A greater challenge would be to do the things on my list before they become reasons for my stress. List 3 specific every day challenges that are rewarding and explain your reward.
1. Getting to work on time, making the coffee and having everything up and going. I could have the coffee ready to turn on, but I'd rather make it when I get to work. My reward understress is fresh coffee just th way I like it.
2. I take my lunch to work, I make sure it is good for me and something quick I can eat so I can also use my lunch hour to get in a little walk. My reward is feeling good and more alert in the afternoon.
3. Breakfast is an every day challenge for me. If I can get up early enough to do all that needs to be done and still work in breakfast that is a great day and my reward is the energy I get from having that first meal of the morning to break my evening fast - thus 'break-fast'.
A major successful challenge could be your climb to Mt. Everest! Or perhaps it could be as simple as staying on a budget for a whole year, which in my definition, is major!List at least one, major successful challenge that you faced under stress and explain your reward.
We had a very stressful situation at work, my boss was no longer working here and as it worked out I was the only one out of 5 people still working at my job, that meant we had to get help from our director and her staff...and they knew very little about what went on in our area. I had to do on the job training to 3-4 people and still have everything run smoothy and it did. My reward was I had the respect of everyone I worked with during that time.
