Matthew 19:26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."Christ knew that effective time management begins with God, so must we if we are striving to be Christ like, striving to live as God our Father has intended for us. Once we begin our time management, begin our day devoting time, prayer and meditation to God our Father, we will also begin our discovery of God’s intentions for us. What you will discover, God’s intentions are not for you to do everything, carry all burdens of the world, or to live your life in stress.
Ecclesiastes 3:3-5 a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrainOur earthly life and time as we know it, is priceless. Both, once gone, is gone. Our society puts too much concern and importance on money and less importance on our lives and how we spend that time living it. Managing money seems to be a higher priority than managing our time. Often we look down upon someone who spends their money frivolously, not planning, not saving for their future, they are much too often living for that moment. So who has it right? I would say, the person that is living each day according to God’s will. God makes it very clear in the scriptures, that there is a time to save and a time to plan for what may lie ahead, it is called being prepared. He also makes it clear, that we should not be weary for tomorrow.
Matthew 6:34Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.A time to tear down and a time to buildThe majority of our stress is self inflicted. When we ourselves fill our plate, we often fill it too full. As things start piling up it becomes difficult for us to sort through the mess we have created. Our stress begins as we become overwhelmed, not knowing where to start or how to get started. When I have a big mess to clear out, I do not stand in the middle of the mess, I start at the edges and work my way through it.
Ezra 10:13But there are many people here and it is the rainy season; so we cannot stand outside. Besides, this matter cannot be taken care of in a day or two, because we have sinned greatly in this thing.Which Motto Fits You Best?
Why do today what you can put off 'til tomorrow.
Why put off 'til tomorrow what you can do todayAs Rome was not built in a day, chances are the stessors piled on your plate were not built in a day either. These matters cannot be taken care of in a day or two. But you can begin to sort out the stress mess you have created, move those items to a new clean daily plate, dealing with the priorities set for that day.
The best purchase you can make if you do not already own one, is a day planner. A day planner is an effective clean daily plate which allows you to visually become aware. As I have suggested many times to those in the weight loss coaching group, journalizing is very important when dieting, as it helps you to become aware of your obstacles and weak points. You cannot begin dealing with them if you do not know what they are. Stress time management is no different. It is wise to have that planner handy following your morning time with God and list the things that are important to do for that day, and even more important, is to do them!
Being an emotional overeater is a weakness, being overly stressed is a weakness, not being able to manage your time, is a weakness. We need to learn how to manage our weakness instead of allowing weakness to manage us. Therefore, it is important that you learn what is important!
o Be aware of how you use time
o Know how you waste time
o Know what gets in the way
o Learn how to manage/control use of time
Leviticus 26:4I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit.A time to embrace and a time to refrainTime management is most effective when you have a balanced life-style. Storms are a part of that life, we not only will endure them, but they are essential to our growth. It is important that we learn to make wise choices, planting the seeds that will bring balance to our lives.
Some of you have great intentions to do God’s work. Perhaps you raise your hand and volunteer every time you see a need and then you struggle with the commitment because you really do not have the time to follow through effectively. Or perhaps your intentions are to do His work, but you do not because you are already overwhelmed with too much on your plate.
God does want to help you through those storms, God does want you to live a healthy balanced life and He does want you to do His work. But, God wants you to plant your seeds of commitment wisely. There will never be a lack of need, God does not want or expect you to carry a load that is too heavy to carry. Before you raise your hand and volunteer, be wise and pray about it first. Even if you think you have the time, perhaps God has other plans for you. If you find yourself committed to a task that you choose, and then God shows up a few days later with His task for you, who’s task is more important? You will find yourself torn and stressed, wanting to do all things, when God only wanted you to do one thing. There is a time to refrain.
If you find yourself not committing to God’s work because you are already overwhelmed with those things you have chosen to do or neglect, again it is time to put that plate before God. If God puts it upon your heart to do something now, it is time to embrace it! All other things that you think are important but are not, may or may not get done, but it doesn’t matter! Those things that are important, God will leave plenty of room for you to get them done. He will never ask from you to do what you cannot do. Right now, he is asking you to make room on that plate for Him. Be wise and seek His counsel in your daily planning.
