Well ... it has been busy, hectic, but ... it could always be worse! :o)
I very much love my new job, however the pay is very poor and it is not enough to sustain our lives really. But, it is a job! With the economy the way it is, I am very fortunate to have that, and the opportunities I truly believe, have just begun. I do believe that the true blessings come, when you begin to believe in yourself, that yes you can, because God has already blessed us with the POWER, it is just a matter of believing it to be so. As the Community Events Coordinator at my new job, I am very excited about the many opportunities that will present themselves in the near future. Currently I am working on getting a Food Drive started within our store and I will be partnering with a local food bank to assist us with our efforts to help the community. As Halloween is around the corner, I am going to try to get together a Harvest Carnival within our store, so children within the community can come and play some games for their treats. The best part of this position, is not the pay, but the future opportunities that it does provide. I am meeting new faces, new people, and the window for opportunities is huge, as God is limitless! I am very tired though, as I have been running like crazy to keep up! Keep praying for me and Val! Love You All! Share with us, what is going on in your life?

I really like the idea of these stress stretchers.I carry a lot of tension in my neck, even when I'm unaware of stress as a factor. I think these would be good and not too taxing for a long day with limited time for a long workout. With stretching, its doesnt quite feel so taxing. What do you guys think?

I love what you said about cheerfulness and contentment as well as the smile. it certainly makes all the difference. I would like to ask your advice about bags under the eyes. I have tried various products without much success and I know that more sleep would definitly help but I would love to know your thoughts Love Nikki

Summer brings some special skincare and haircare concerns.
Some tips for summer skincare: 1) Drink plenty of water throughout the day. 2) Taking just 1 tsp. of cod liver oil daily can help keep your skin moist and smooth and help rejuvenate cells. 3) Sunscreen! Estimated measurements are a shotglass full for your body and a teaspoonful for your face. And reapply every 1-2 hours or if you've been in water. They also make convenient spray suncreens now which are less messy. 4) Soften your calloused summer feet by soaking them in Epsom salt water for 10-15 minutes. **A fun suggestion for the ladies for summer: After soaking, give yourself a pedicure with a bold polish for summer. 5) Exfoliate your body ... you can do this 2 or 3 times per week. Seasalt works well to remove dull, dry, flaky skin. 6) When you shave, consider using hair conditioner for a moisturizing shaving cream. 7) Be sure to hydrate your body with a good lotion. 8) Consider getting your summer color with a self-tanner. You can alternate it daily with a regular moisturizer if you don't want too dark of a tan. 9) Consider a face mask once a week. (See face mask thread for a couple home recipes!) To protect your hair, consider a hat or visor if you're going to be outside awhile. Also, look in your haircare products section for shampoos and conditioners that contain UV filters.

Yogurt Mask
Mix 1 tsp plain yogurt with juice from a 1/4 of an orange. Stir well. Dip fingertips and apply to face. It should feel cool & relaxing. Leave on for approximately 5-10 minutes, then rinse with warm water, splash with cool and pat dry. The yogurt works as a cleanser and skin nourisher, while the orange contributes Vitamin C and AHAs (alpha hydroxy acids). ***************************************************************************************** Cucumber Mask Peel a cucumber, and run it through a food processor. Strain it, but be sure to keep the liquid...that's what you want. Mix the cucumber liquid with equal parts lemon juice and witch hazel. Add in a beaten egg. Put on face for 15-25 minutes. Then rinse with warm water, splash with cool water and pat dry.

I have a wonderful book that looks at dealing with stress in a really fun and sensible way. Its called 'JUST HAND OVER THE CHOCOLATE AND NO-ONE WILL GET HURT' In it the author (obviously a woman!) shows lots of different ways we can help ourselves when under pressure even down to taking 5 minute holidays. its a brilliant book and an easy read. She advocates do a little gardening as a way to relax, achieve a small goal that lasts and also provides a sensory relaxing experience as well as adding a little beauty. She takes her children on holiday for a day by visiting the travel agent and picking up brochures, then the library and getting out books from a country of her choice and then visiting an ethnic market and enjoying the smells of that country and buying the food of that country for a meal. Unfortunately we dont live near such a market but its a great idea. I love sitting looking at travel magazines and imagining myself somewhere else for 5 minutes. Another trick I use to relax if I'm stressed and need 5 minutes is to do up in my bedroom (in the day time,) open the window so I can hear the birds and lie on top of the bed so that there's a lovely breeze wafting over me. If I hear song birds I imagine myslef near a river or under a tree in the country on a lovely sunny day, if its raining I imagine a waterfall nearby. If I hear sea gulls, i imagine myself on a sandy beach. 10 minutes later I feel wonderfully rested and uplifted and like a new woman.

I gave myself a few treats this week as I have now lost a stone in weight. Thats 14lbs. I bought myself some new kitchen scales....digital ones so that I can more accuratley record my calories. I also bought myself some flowers because I have been exercising regularly this week. These have encouraged and spurred me on.

I love brownies! I was watching America's Test Kitchen yesterday, rarely do they do low fat foods, but because of the high demand and request for a great brownie recipe that is low fat, they came up with a brownie that they say tastes like a brownie should. I found the recipe online, and have it posted in our Recipe pages. Who ever enjoys baking, loves brownies and wants to be our taste tester... let us know how it turns out. Remember ... one brownie is a serving! :o)

Wow, you have been busy, even preset your calendar! Great Job! What you may notice if you click onto the daily calendar, you have lots of room to make notes, comments, or even post your daily menu right here on your calendar. Don't forget, we can always print up those daily calendars as needed to remind us of things we need to do that day and use as a check off list.

Lately it seems as if Valerie is growing a bit distant from me and the rest of the family, such as Dad and Grandma. She almost has a bit of snobby air in her attitude towards me specifically. I do understand that it is a part of life, she is growing up and at the age of 14, this is part of the process. Pulling away, separating herself from silly parents, etc. I did the same thing myself and it is expected to happen. However, as much as I know this is part of the growing process, it is also scary. No longer sharing all with me, it makes it difficult to know what is going on in her mind. This is also often the phase in your child's life where they can make some very poor choices. I am confident that she is a wise child, she has always demonstrated good reasons to trust her. At this point in my life, I simply need to trust that about her, (with a watchful eye! lol ) I have been praying a lot about this, because even though I know it must be, I at the same time, do not want to lose her. Last night we were watching the firework display and she started talking about a boy that she likes. I was asking some questions about him and she was sharing with me. She then said to me, "Mom, this is what I really love about you." I said, "What?" She said, "I know you are not asking questions simply because you are being nosy, but that you really are interested in me and what is going on. You enjoy hearing about things that bring me joy." I simply looked up to the beautiful sparkles in the sky ... "THANK YOU LORD!!!!"

List Seven productive things you are going to do each day, outside of your away from home job. What you do, depends on you, it can be from sending a card, making a phone call, to cleaning out a closet. Make them do-able projects. Do not list things that are impossible to do. I have included a link to Sandy's Page, she has a bunch of to do lists that you can copy and print if you need a pretty lists. But any piece of paper will do! In the goal workshop, create a thread of your own, at the end of each week, list your accomplishments.
Have Fun!! http://multimediadesignbysandy.com/to_do_list.htm

Tony Tony Tony, I know you are Italian, however your love for biscuits no doubt tells me you are a true southern boy! I may be a California gal, but I have some of that southern blood in my veins too! Certainly I can understand that love for biscuits, especially if I have some good old flour gravy smothering them. But I do believe it is that love for biscuits and other temptations that lure us from our goals.
I am sending to your personal email "The Revelations of Fasting" and we will work on it! Please share with us Tony your concerns, what is the most difficult task or struggle that is keeping you from staying focused?
